Underdog
How's things lads? I hope everyone is all good. I was curious as to whether anyone had had an experience with making Rick Simpson Oil with freshly harvested bud? If so, how did it go? Did you end up with less oil? Same oil, but less potent? Did it just not work? Cheers

Underdog
@Hazeworks Thanks pal cheers for the info. Did you notice any difference in yield or quality with RSO when using freshly harvested instead of dry?
Slippy One
You’ll be getting a lot of unwanted chlorophyll and various waxes that’ll boil down to the finished product, unless everything is done at -24°C it’ll be far from a QWISO and very bitter. You’d need to freeze the bud regardless, so a good solution would be to make bubble hash first, then soak the bubble in ethanol. As long as there’s zero mould, it would be perfect for edibles and 1000x tastier than extracting all that unwanted stuff..
Graywolf
We regularly extracted fresh material but called the product "Live Resin" rather than RSO. We froze the material before extracting using butane and got a lower yield per pound than dry material, but about on par if you deduct the water weight. The product was tasty and produced a good high. The most common word used by our students to describe the flavor was, "Fresh." We never tried to extract fresh material with alcohol because of its polarity vis a vis the water and chlorophyll content.

PS: If you wish to use alcohol on fresh material, I agree with SO regarding extracting the trichomes first using ice water extraction and then extract the essential oils from the kief.
