State of the seed game

I’ve not been buying seeds recently so I can grow out my collection but I still keep a keen eye on what’s out there.

Pretty mad the price of seeds. 80 quid seems about the standard. Some of the vendors pictures clearly show they aren’t growing plants to their full potential yet still charge that sort of money.

I am wondering if the recent availability of many well known elite clones on a well known website in the US might lower the price of seeds in the coming years as now anyone can cross RS11 to Gelato 41, Chem D to TK and so on.

Unlikely but one can only hope.

Regarding clones and websites. I wonder how many are the actual clones they claim. Rather than someone’s version of it. For example used to always be cheese about in london. Imo it wasn’t all proper cheese, a lot of the time it smelt cheesy but wasn’t quite it.  You knew when you got the real deal. Sort of thinking it just because some these websites seem to have every hyped up strain. I reckon a good few probably wouldn’t let the clone go. You know what it’s like, money and egos.

A lot of the breeders now all offer the same thing. The latest hypes crossed n given a silly name. Again I wonder how many actually have the hype strain to cross with and it not just being their own version of it. Personally I am hopeful we’ll see a move back towards the older strains. Think plenty are fed up with seeing the same latest crosses. Know I ended up looking again the other day for some sour diesel. Market seems over saturated with breeders selling seeds. Guess it’s just gonna come down to who can do the best marketing.

The difference with this website is the clones are coming from Skunk VA & Gabby / Staten Island so there is a degree of validity to them. I would love to try some of them myself just to experience them but will make do with finding my own special and unique plants.

I know seeds get slated a lot nowadays but I'm finding new stuff quite interesting especially in terms of flavours. I tangent a time when nearly everything was citrus or blue cheese, got really boring for me. There's all kinds of flavours springing up now.

Have to agree with the pricing of some of them though, they just take the piss. I know how many seeds a plant can make and that's with me not even trying to pollinate it.

Greedy bastards :nono:

I think that in the sake of responsibility so that us members can avoid said site, maybe you should name itlol

After rubbing shoulders with some people over here that were going round trying to sell seeds and cuts as the real deal.....

Turned out to be bulk produced seeds from Spain and the plants produced were absolute garbage washed down weak crap.

Anybody can approach these seed banks or bulk producers, purchase in bulk some seeds named after a famous strain, repackaged them in some nice bags, do a bit of good catchy adversising and away they go.

Money and ego.......

It was bound to happen after the commercialisation of cannabis in the States.

It's a slippery slope once folks know how much money can be made...

Hopefully 🤞

I've noticed a few seed sellers listing crosses of clones I hold.

Tbh now I have a decent collection again, it seems more fun to make them myself than buy others.

Definitely easier to get hold of them than it used to be.

Same deal now with cheese, but it seems mostly to be constrained to that one strain.

I'm half convinced that the people pushing out the shit cheese clones haven't ever actually smoked real cheese to know the difference.

Got two Cheese clones now myself. One I've grown out and I believe is most likely a ugorg #1 cut, the other one is meant to be the brightside but we'll see. Quietly optimistic about this one as the other cuts I've got from him have been legit.

Didn’t read through previous posts but another concern with clones - particularly from the states - is HLVD.

80£ for a pack of beans isn’t too bad really, personally I’ve paid double that for a 13 pack of compound genetics seeds in the past  - but there are huge differences in quality, guess it depends what you’re looking for.

People talking about greed - it’s more business-like these days - people aren’t doing this for charity and everyone’s got bills to pay. It’s been commercialised, which has its downfalls - but then it has its positives, so much money into it has elevated the game worldwide so much on different levels including medical flower and pharma products. The variety of strains these days is unreal and as someone else mentioned long gone of the days of the same old stuff all the time!

Im a huge growing fan , got more interest in the challenge than the grow !

I got zero interest in the fancy high end expensive beans ....mainly as they dont grow any better or worse than the cheap beans under the sun , yes the end product may be better but im not chasing that but fair play to those that do.

I class the Subbies beans as high class as some of the finest herb i have sampled has come from Subbies beans. 🥰

Im happy trawling SeedMadness Clearance pages and buying dirt cheap packs of discontinued and old stock beans !

Hell my bad ass big Dinafem Blue Cheese came from there and she produced some tasty nuggets !

So i dont care about the high end market lol

I do care about the Subbies beans and so grateful for the guys & girls producing them !    Thank you all.

More challenge than reward for me 👍

Same old shit innit? Most breeders working with homogenised brown paste and while the data is there, impossible to unravel the decades of shitey breeding practices embedded into cannabiz. Just more expensive and the brown paste more extensive these days.

As other have said, youd be far better off exploring the subbies seeds for unique flavours and highs.

Elite cuts ffs lol

My next purchase from tude only comes to £70. I get something like 8 different strains, 2 breeders. 710 genetics and some other. I made a rule not to go over £30 per seed order. They came to £18 roughly for 3 fem seeds. Got 4-5 different strains and got hit with 2 promo’s as well.

Point is what’s is the difference between £200 weed and £30 weed? For me, its taste. That’s it. The high isn’t going to be too different is it? Stoned is stoned. I don’t give a shit about how it looks growing. Purple leaves or whatever. I’m not keeping or smoking the leaves am I.

It’s the market changing due to legality and the fact that legitimate work is being done. So I guess costs go up along with paying employees and tax n all that.
Fact is somethings only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

@OldFord the subbies beans .. imo as a newbie seems a no brainer

To actually see and follow a journal of what you are getting ?? It's genius ..I'm intrigued as to how the sponsors of beans ..compete with this ? But I'd guess they are confident in there products ?

I'm not trying to advertise a company from outside the site or break any rules .. so perhaps best to not name them ?

They asked if Id like a mixture of regs , autos , gems to grow out and label by number not strain .. id later know there name

Anything that looked stretchy , mutant etc turf out early .. take 2/3 snips off each once you think potential!?!?

The results exceeded all expectations and the beans were for free

Although I've had a sabbatical and the pruners are gathering dust .. I remain in touch with the seedbank and wish others would build up a relationship with growers/canna clubs as opposed to hype and fancyfull claims of there seeds

Surely we can dream ?

@sepsisurvivor     Sadly like most things in life ...your always gonna get Fan Boys , Bullshit and False Claims !

Some of the expensive beans i have run ....with claims of XYZ % thc .....means shit !,   The Entourage effect is where its at , i use the numbers / facts and figures as a general guide ,   I still run some old  low thc cultivars that DESTROY some of the modern high thc stuff ......Grow what you fancy ,  share the journey on here , first hand experience ...theres no substitute !

Im sure theres some wonderful high end beans that produce wonderful end product but for me ...im happy not being a canna snob and buying what readily available off the shelf 👍

Each to their own mucker.
