Yeah, as far as I’m aware….   I don’t think there’s currently a good enough alternative out there to get the whole hort industry to ditch peat (which is banging).

Peat free stuff might be ok for hanging baskets, flower beds and allotments, but you wouldn’t want to be bringing on thousands of cell grown or specialist plants in bunch of composted wood waste (or whatever its made of).

I’m guessing none of the hydro shop brands will be effected either, as they’re technically for ‘professional’ use..?

I’m thinking it’s like them wanting to phase out Petrol/deisel vehicles,  it’s for good reasons but ultimately gonna take lot of time.

That's a good anology, we haven't found a decent non peat compost like we haven't found a decent alternative to petrol.

I fucking hate EV lol

I'll ask the stupid question then, what's that?

I know there are different grades of peat, but what do you mean by raw unformulated? As in not mixed with soil?!

2030 for industry use I think? Whole pile of money being thrown at sphagnum cultivation, aiming to be in place by then.

Yeah that's a good point, I did think they might have figured it out by now, I was working in a nursery over ten years ago and we where trialing peat free even then, plants did fine but the water retention was shit iirc.

That's great news then TBH, I know we need to be more eco friendly, but as you say pest free options just aren't as good for the most part especially when it comes to consistency.

You'll need to at least add some lime I'd imagine to buffer it as mentioned above by slim.

If only lol. If I had a penny for every thrip mark my plants have had to endure I'd be on the Forbes list.

Canna Terra Professional

So not the professional PLUS... Just the Canna Terra Professional?

Cos the Terra Professional I can get for a fair price, and last time I tried Caana soil it was the PLUS, and I wasn't impressed with spending the extra few quid a bag. In fact if we being honest mate I was actually quite pissed as the soil, it really let me down, it fkd my clones early on and I had the worst thrip and fungus gnat issues I've ever had, was a nightmare to get it all sorted before the last pot up. I actually threw a bag and a half away and went to PM for the final pots.

But if the normal Terra Professional is good then I could actually get on board with that as like I said I can get it for a really good price close to me.

Cheers.

That's sounds more like an issue of how it was stored, any soil/potting mix will get gnats and nasties/go anaerobic if it stays too wet for too long. I've stopped buying anything from local garden centre for this exact reason.
