Star Trek Discovery :soap: Not even sure why I watch this abomination of a show, probably because I'd like some Star Trek and there isn't anything else except Lower Decks, which is like watching a pack of dogs barking for 30 minutes. lol

Can anyone explain why 'the burn' in STD

:lookaround: caused all star ships at warp to explode? The say all dilithium went inert so wouldn't that just cause the ships to drop out of warp?

Which Star Trek is worth watching ? I'm not been sarcastic , just wondering , I've only seen the original and the one with Picard

None of the others IMHO   The first 2 or 3 seasons of Voyager are okay but they slip into science fiction gobbledygook quite quickly, trying to pretend they know how stuff works rather than just saying we can do X with no explanation,  which is better, and they do this so often, causing me to develop my own gobbledygook alarm.  As  Boojum said once DS9 gets to the Dominion storylines it is much better but it takes so long to get there.  Discovery is pants.

Queen's Gambit is superb, Anya Taylor-Joy is one of those actors who literally shines in every role. :) She voiced Brea in the sublime Dark Crystal reboot.

Dark crystal reboot good then?

I have pretty much ignored it to date

It's a fucking masterpiece, and on a technical level, just insane. :)  All depends whether you appreciate the original film and Jim Henson's vision or not. I couldn't stop watching.

@Degsy Discovery is dumbed down to the point where the sci-fi doesn't even apply to known laws of physics. lol At least other ST series have at least tried to obey a few fundamentals.

Watch it but only  if you've seen everything else.

Anybody seen Young Wallander ? It just seems a bit weird to me , it's set in Sweden but it's in English

I am just watching the last of the original Wallander series, watched the whole lot in order... on Netflix.

I will check out Young Wallander next, I'll give you my opinion

Some good episodes to be found in all ST, you've just got to wade through the shit. lol TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise all have some great storylines. :)

Shine on Harvey Moon. (1982)

Starring Kenneth Cranham, Maggie Steed, Elizabeth Spriggs, Linda Robson and Nigel Planer

Just rediscovered this little gem.  Difficult to believe that such a mainstream show back in the day was so blatantly socialist.  All available on youtube.

.

I've never seen Shine on Harvey Moon but talking about blatantly socialist how about

Boys From The Black Stuff . I really want to rewatch that now and see how different it is

from my memory of it . I didn't watch it when it first came out but probably in the early 90's .

I've started re-watching The West Wing on the Channel 4 streaming thingy. I know it's wanky liberal nonsense about a fantasy White House somewhere over the yellow brick road, or the rainbow, or summat (and even more so now that Trump has happened lol ). But the dialogue is just so good :) There's a rhythm to it that's almost like verse.
