Twelve12
Nice thread, just a question on what the thermostat does, reads the temp and switches fan on and off? How does the fan regulate its speed? Manualy? Thank you
Guest TYS
The variac controls the low speed, the thermostat then switches to mains power at max temp for full speed.
Twelve12
so its either set to full speed or being over temp its speed is @ what you set it on the dimmer. Cheers Edited December 30, 2011 by Twelve12

Guest chopsey
thanks for this thread, i built one of these last year with thermostat and humidifier (humidifier a total overkill and never really needed) but it worked. as i had the fan in my loft the slight buzzing i got from it was never a problem. having since moved i have bought a variac and plan to wire it up in place of the dimmer switch. i have trawled through the info on variacs with thermostat overides but i'm having trouble getting a simple wiring diagram. most seem to contain two variacs, relays, and lighting control and are not what i need. just wondering, if i wired in the variac the same as the dimmer could it work? http://www.uk420.com/boards/uploads/post-3121-1102940142.jpg hoping you can help
